PRESQUE ISLE – Russell T. Davenport, 87, died Jan. 13, 2009, in Caribou. He was born Feb. 7, 1921, at Caribou, son of the late John and Alice (Downing) Davenport. Russell was married to the love of his life, Loueen (Erickson) Davenport for 131/2 years. He worked many years in various jobs, working for G.P. Findlen and Sons, Fort Fairfield, then at Peterson’s Motor Mart, Fort Fairfield, and was a parts man at Steego Auto Parts, Presque Isle. Russell was the custodian at Odd Fellows-Rebekah Home, Auburn. He wrapped up his professional career working for R.H. Foster Mobile Station, Presque Isle. He was attending Caribou United Baptist Church, before he was an active member of Bethel Baptist Church, Fort Fairfield, for many years, where he was custodian, a member of the board of trustees and the board of adult Christian education. Russell was a loving and devoted husband, father and grandfather to his family. He is survived by his wife, Loueen of Presque Isle; his two children, Sandra Davenport of Caribou and Russell “Bucky” Davenport of Amesbury, Mass.; one stepdaughter, Jean Cofone of Westbrook; three grandchildren, Russell and Brian Monson of Caribou, and Lisa Anderson of Limestone; two brothers, Talford and Gideon Davenport, both of Fort Fairfield; three sisters, Hazel Napoleon of South Portland, Ethel McLaughlin of Connecticut and Alice “Cookie” Kinney of New Brunswick; several nieces and nephews, including a special nephew, Bill Campbell. He will also be missed by special friends, Richard and Sylvia Johnson. He was predeceased by his first wife of 52 years, Gwendolyn Davenport; three brothers, Jasper, John Jr. and Daniel Davenport; three sisters, Annie Whitmore, Della Paradis and Maxine McCarty; and two stepsons, Darrell Turner and Gary Swett. Friends may call 7-9 p.m. Wednesday at Mockler Funeral Home, 24 Reservoir St., Caribou. Funeral services will be held 1 p.m. Thursday, Jan. 15, at Caribou United Baptist Church with the Rev. John Kiehn and Rev. Joshua Burden officiating. Interment will take place at Riverside Cemetery, Fort Fairfield. A reception will be held immediately after the services in the church reception area.
