RAYMOND F. ‘MOOSE’ JOHNSTON BETHEL TOWNSHIP, OHIO Raymond F. “Moose” Johns-ton, 74, of Bethel Township, Miami County, Ohio, passed away Jan. 13, 2009, at Hospice of Dayton, Ohio. He was born in Caribou, son of the late Glenn W. and Lola (Miller) Johnston. The family lived in Stockholm in the early 1950s and Raymond graduated from Caribou High School, Class of 1952. Raymond retired from the U.S. Postal Service after 37 years of service and was a four-year veteran of the U.S. Air Force, serving in the Korean War. He was a life member of VFW No. 9582, AmVets Post No. 99, Eagles 2201 and a member of American Legion No. 586. Ray also served proudly in the VFW and AmVets honor guards. He was predeceased by his parents; and one brother, Granville Johnston. Ray is survived by his beloved wife of 52 years, Barbara; a loving daughter, Glenda and her husband, Gordon Tron; grandchildren, Jeffrey and Jennifer of Casstown; three sisters and families, Glenna Soderberg of Norwich, Conn., Thelma Ward of Hendersonville, N.C., and Janet MacDonald of New Sweden; and numerous other relatives and friends. Funeral services will be held 11 a.m. Friday, Jan. 16, at Morton & Whetstone Funeral Home, 139 S. Dixie Drive, Vandalia, Ohio, with the Rev. Ronald Harjarian officiating. Burial will be at Casstown Cemetery. The family will receive friends 5-7:30 p.m. Thursday at the funeral home.
