TRENTON – William Lawrence Mac Michael, 87, died Jan. 6, 2009, at his home with family at his bedside. He had experienced a long struggle with Alzheimer’s disease. Bill attended Columbia University, where he played varsity football, was elected to the honorary engineering society, Theta Tau and served two years as class president. When World War II started, Bill enlisted in the Army Air Force. In the spring of 1944, he received his commission and married Betty Jane Cudworth of New York City. Together they traveled to Victorville Air Field in California where he was stationed for a year before leaving for the Philippines and Okinawa. Upon his return home, he obtained his Master of Business Administration from Columbia Business School. At that time, Dwight Eisenhower was president of Columbia University and Bill had the privilege of working with him on some projects. He later joined International Business Machines and remained with the company in various managerial positions until retirement. Bill and his wife chose Maine as their retirement community. The family designed and built their own home by the ocean in Trenton. Bill is survived by his wife, Betty Jane; two daughters, Anne Krichels and Susan Morley; a son, Thomas; his sister, Janice Colwell; and six grandchildren. A service of remembrance is planned for spring.
