HOULTON, Maine — Police were searching Thursday for two people caught on video sneaking onto the grounds of a Houlton business under cover of darkness and speeding off with two snowmobiles.

Sometime early Sunday, two people walked onto the parking lot of Houlton Powersports and RV Center, 519 North St., and boarded two used sleds. They then took off on the machines. The incident was captured on the store’s surveillance camera.

The business was closed over the weekend, and Ben Adams, who manages the store, said he did not notice the sleds were missing until he arrived Monday morning to plow.

One stolen sled is a black 2007 F1000. The other is an orange 2008 Crossfire 1000 SP.

Adams said the video showed both of the thieves were suited up for snowmobiling. It appeared that one was wearing a Carhartt jacket and a blue and white motocross-style helmet. The other was fully suited in black with a black full-face helmet, he said.

Adams said the store is offering a $500 reward to anyone who provides information leading to the culprits and the return of the sleds.

Anyone with information is asked to call the Houlton Police Department at 532-2287 or leave information on the anonymous tip line by calling 694-3545.
