BUCKSPORT – Harvard F. Collins, 93, died Friday, Jan. 23, 2009. He was born June 4, 1915, in South Blue Hill, son of Irving S. and Gertrude (Henderson) Collins. He served as a steamfitter’s apprentice starting in Baltimore in 1937. Harvard served five and a half years in the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers in the European Theater and was awarded the Bronze Star Medal. After World War II, he followed his construction trade until his retirement in 1977. He is survived by his beloved wife, Alice “Connie” Collins of Bucksport; two sisters, Helen Sylvester of South Blue Hill and Wilma Wheeler of Rio Rancho, N.M.; also several nieces and a nephew. At Harvard’s request, there will be no funeral services. Interment will be at Woodbine Cemetery, Ellsworth, at a later date. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions in Harvard’s memory may be made to Elm Street Congregational Church, P.O. Box 878, Bucksport, ME 04416 or Buck Memorial Library, 47 Main St., Bucksport, ME 04416. Arrangements are under the direction of Mitchell-Tweedie Funeral Home and Cremations Services, 28 Elm St., Bucksport.
