BELFAST, Maine — A Swanville woman taking a road test may have to try again after she ran a stop sign and struck a sport utility vehicle Monday morning.
Meg K. Stockwell, 45, of Swanville was operating a 2000 Mercury on Cedar Street with Maine Department of Motor Vehicle inspector Steven Davis beside her in the passenger seat when she failed to stop for a stop sign at the Franklin Street intersection and struck the side of a 2002 Chevrolet Suburban driven by Wendall A. Story, 68, of Monroe. Both drivers were wearing seat belts and there were no injuries. The accident occurred at 9:41 a.m.
Investigating officer Howard Dakin said Stockwell was in the process of getting her license recertified when the accident occurred. She was summoned for failure to stop at a stop sign.
The Mercury’s damage was estimated at $5,000, and it was towed from the scene. Damage to the SUV was estimated at $3,500.
Dakin was unsure of the disposition of Stockwell’s license.
“All I know is that when I was finished with her license, he [Davis] asked for it,” Dakin said Monday.
