INDIAN ISLAND – Roland “Buckshot” C. Nicolar, 73, died Jan. 25, 2009, at a health care facility on Indian Island. He was born Aug. 29, 1935, the son of Horace and Hattie (Shay) Nicolar. Roland worked and lived for many years in Waterbury, Conn., and North Charleston, S.C., but it was his biggest desire to move back home to Indian Island, which he finally did 10 years ago. Roland is survived by his daughter, Deborah Nicolar of Waterbury, Conn.; and his five siblings, Robert H. Anderson of Lincolnville, Leroy A. Nicolar, Geraldine Haddad and Emma Nicolar, all of Indian Island and Elizabeth Stokes of Goosecreek, S.C. He is also survived by his uncle, Charles N. Shay; many nieces, nephews and cousins. Roland was predeceased by his parents; his wife, Betty; and his siblings, Flossie, Everett, Charles Anderson and Edwina Carpentieri. The family appreciates the wonderful care given to Roland by the staff at Dr. Eunice Baumann Assisted Living Facility and Indian Island Hospice Group volunteer. Interment will be private this spring.
