BREWER – Gertrude Marion (Dunham) Anderson, beloved wife of the late Clarence Eugene Anderson, went to be with her Lord and Savior, Jan. 26, 2009, at her home. She was born Aug. 6, 1916, in Mariaville, the daughter of Wilbert Crocket and Marion Gertrude (Edgecomb) Dunham. Better known as “Trudy,” she was a wonderful daughter, sister, wife and devoted mother of five children. She attended school in Amherst, Mariaville and Bangor. She enjoyed sewing and crafts, but most importantly, the loving care of her family. An example was her strength in taking care of her invalid mother for 18 years at her home in Brewer. Gertrude’s courage and strength through her own long decline was a testimony to her gentle spirit that touched all who knew her. The assistance of New Hope Hospice during this time was a blessing as it allowed her family to fulfill her last wish to remain at home. She will be greatly missed. Surviving are two sons, Ronald E. Anderson and his wife, Kathy, of Baltimore, and Donald E. Anderson and his wife, Brenda, of Hudson, Fla.; one daughter, Diane B. Bowden and her husband, Barry, of Pisgah Forest, N.C.; one stepdaughter, Rita Germaine and her husband, John, of Quebec; 11 grandchildren and 16 great-grandchilldren. She was predeceased by her parents and her husband, a stepson, Clarence Eugene “Genie” Anderson Jr.; one daughter, Judy Bitzenhofer; three sisters, Christine Church, Kathleen Douglas and Eleanor Meissonnier; and one brother, Knowlton Dunham. A service in honor of Gertrude’s life will be held 1 p.m. Saturday at Kiley & Foley Funeral Service, 69 State St., Brewer, with the Rev. Patricia Moore, presiding. Family and friends may visit 11 a.m. until the service begins at the funeral home. Burial will be in the spring at Greenwood Cemetery, Otis.
