President Obama has named former Maine Sen. George Mitchell as his Middle East
envoy. Sen. Mitchell is credited with much of the success of the peace accords reached
between Catholics and Protestants in Northern Ireland. Can he achieve the same sort of
resolution between Israelis and Palestinians? Or do those differences run too deep? Has
the U.S. lost momentum by putting the Israeli-Palestinian conflict on the back burner over
the last eight years? Or was the violence bound to return?
