BREWER, Maine — Undercover agents with the Maine Drug Enforcement Agency bought cocaine on two occasions from a local man near the Washington Street School, then charged him with aggravated trafficking, authorities said Wednesday.
Terrence Durel, 28, who allegedly sold cocaine to the agents within 1,000 feet of the elementary school, was arrested Tuesday evening, said the MDEA’s Garry Higgins, who supervises a regional task force.
The purchases were conducted “just about on the school property,” he said.
Durel was charged with two counts of Class A felony aggravated trafficking because of the location, Higgins said.
He lives at 79 Washington St. The school’s address is 100 Washington St.
“His name is on the mailbox,” Higgins said. But Durel listed a Bangor address when taken to Penobscot County Jail, and he also has lived in Brooks, Carmel and in Florida, where he is listed as a registered sex offender. The Florida Sexual Offenders and Predators Web site does not give de-tails as to why he is required to register there.
Durel also has a felony conviction in Waldo County for possession of oxycodone, Higgins said.
Durel made his first appearance in 3rd District Court in Bangor on Wednesday. His bail was set at $3,000 cash or $30,000 surety. He remained in jail Wednesday evening, a jail official said.
