SHIN POND – Delbert O. Rideout, 68, made his exit from this Earthly journey into the arms of his heavenly Father Jan. 27, 2009, surrounded by his loving family. He was born July 2, 1940, in Dover-Foxcroft, son of Hazen and Winona (Whittier) Rideout. He graduated from Foxcroft Academy in 1960, then went on to graduate from Faith School of Theology in 1963. In 1965 he was drafted in the U.S. Army and served for three years. In 1971 he enlisted in the Air Force and served 17 years, retiring in 1987 with an honorable discharge. It was an honor for Delbert to call the veterans to assemble together to march in the Memorial Day parade every year. He was often called upon to pray and play Taps. He was a member of Patten Pentecostal Church, where he faithfully served using his many musical talents. Delbert is survived by his wife and soul mate of 45 years, Kay (Giles) Rideout; a very special mother-in-law, Iola Giles; 11 brothers and sisters-in-law, Jan and Gary Greely of Cleveland, Tenn., Lois and Gaylon Green of Island Falls, LeRoy Giles of Patten, Guy and Nikki Giles of Millinocket, Brenda and Bob Raymond of Patten and Phyllis and Rod Chambers of Crystal; several nieces, nephews, great-nieces and great-nephews. He was predeceased by his parents; and only sister, Vera. The family wishes to say a special thank you to the Visiting Nurses of Aroostook nurses, Terri Lyons and Diane Lane, and all the nurses on the sixth floor at Eastern Maine Medical Center. Friends may call 6-8 p.m. Friday, Jan. 30, at Patten Pentecostal Church, where a celebration of Delbert’s life will be held 11 a.m. Saturday with Pastors Frank Randall and his nephew, Kevin Green, officiating.
