DANFORTH – Jon R. Fenlason, 72, passed away peacefully Jan. 27, 2009, at a Bangor hospital. He lived with cancer for several years. He was born June 17, 1936, in New York City, to Ellen Elizabeth (Fifield) Fenlason and A. Harold Fenlason. A graduate of Danforth High School and Ricker College, Houlton, he taught at Patten Academy and Katahdin Valley High School. Remembered by some as “The Cotton Candy Man,” for many years he sold candy floss and ran amusement games at various events throughout northern Maine. He is survived by his brother, William of West Hurley, N.Y.; and cousins, Ann (Fifield) Bradley of Danforth and Mary (Fifield) Coombs of Winslow. Although he requested that there be no funeral service, his final wish was to tell those who might still wonder: “The tape on the map is for the first state which allowed women to vote.” In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Cancer Care of Maine, care of Healthcare Charities, P.O. Box 931, Bangor, ME 04402-0931.
