BUCKSPORT and BANGOR – Mary E. Smith, 82, wife of the late Arnold G. Smith, formerly of Bangor, died Jan. 28, 2009, at a Bangor hospital. She was born June 20, 1926, in Bangor, daughter of James M. and June C. (Graffam) Walsh. Mary had been employed for many years as an LPN at Bangor Mental Health Institute. She was a member of East Orrington Congregational Church and 3T Group, the Maine State Employees and Eastern Maine Retirees Associations. Mary’s grandchildren and great-grandchildren were the apples of her eyes. She also was an avid gardener, enjoying her flowers and will be remembered for her “green thumb.” Surviving are one daughter, Bonnie J. Williams of Bucksport; three grandchildren, Marc A. Smith and Dottie Jack of Orrington, Brent Smith of Bangor and Jayson V. Smith and his wife, Erin, of Bucksport; seven great-grandchildren; one brother, Thomas Yeo of Pennsylvania; several nieces and nephews. In addition to her parents and husband, Mary was predeceased by a grandson, Dane Smith; one sister and three brothers. A funeral service will be held 2 p.m. Monday, Feb. 2, at Brookings-Smith, 133 Center St., Bangor, with the Rev. Carl B. Schreiber, pastor and the Rev. Robert T. Carlson, pastor emeritus of East Orrington Congregational Church, officiating. Friends are welcome to call 1 p.m. until the time of service Monday. Interment will be at Mount Hope Cemetery, Bangor.
