BANGOR – George Norsworthy, 78, passed away Feb. 1, 2009, at a local hospital. He was born Aug. 26, 1930, in Caribou, the son of Henry and Myrtle (Humphrey) Norsworthy. George graduated from Corinna High School, where he played baseball and second team All State Football. After high school, he went into the Army, where on returning home he married Constance “Connie” Reid, Feb. 12, 1958. He worked for almost 40 years at Standard Shoe, Bangor. He was very involved in East and West Side Bangor Little League teams, where he coached for 40 years. He was even the vice president of West Side Little League for a time. Everyone who knew him would say that he was a generous, loving man who had a wonderful sense of humor. George was completely devoted to his wife and family. He loved baseball, playing cards and being with loved ones. His grandchildren will remember him as “Papa,” a wonderful, fun loving person who loved to tickle, play games and take them to the ice cream store. He was a loving husband, father and grandfather who will be missed by his loving wife of 50 years, Connie; three sons, Timothy and his wife, Brenda, of Lisbon, David and his wife, Lisa, of Bangor, and Michael and his wife, Karen, of Northboro, Mass.; daughter-in-law, Lori Norsworthy of Orrington; grandchildren, Amy and her husband, Jeremy, Timothy, Desaree, Katie, Jake, Michelle, Ryan and Katelyn; great-grandchildren, Patrick, Nathan and Maria; sister, Betty and her husband, Daniel Robinson; several nieces and nephews. The family thanks the amazing staff at Eastern Maine Medical Center ICU for the wonderful care given. Friends may call 4-6 p.m. Wednesday, Feb. 4, at Brookings-Smith, 133 Center St., Bangor. Funeral services will be held 1 p.m. Thursday, Feb. 5, at Hermon Baptist Church with the Rev. Garnett Chute, pastor, officiating. The family invites relatives and friends to share conversation and refreshments in the church vestry immediately after the service Thursday. Interment will be at Mount Hope Cemetery, Bangor.
