BANGOR – Vera May (Severance) King, 76, passed away peacefully in her sleep on the bright and sunny morning of Feb. 1, 2009, at her home. Vera fought a long hard battle with diabetes for more than 30 years and now is at peace. She was born May 11, 1932, the youngest of eight children to Forrest L. and Ethel (McLaughlin) Severance, at their homestead in Carroll. Vera spent her years from the age of 17 until her retirement working in the mental health field in Connecticut and Maine. She worked hard all her life, but always made the time to be a devoted and loving wife, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother. So in closing, we remember you the little girl who grew with love and became a young girl, who became a wife, a mother, so amazing who left numerous memories so dear. We’ll share them together with each passing year. The love in your heart we give to our own for futures with memories, shared sadness and tears of our own. But one sunny morning we’ll all meet again. Until then dear mother you’re loved to the end. Vera was predeceased by the love of her life, Jim, Jan. 28, 2005. She was also predeceased by her beloved brothers, Ivory, Artemus, Jesse and Avon; and also her two sisters, Ilene and Hazel. She is survived, honored, remembered and loved by her four daughters, Diane, Rosanne, Karen and Jeneice; and a brother, Vinal and wife, Iona, of Orrington. Her love and legacy also includes 13 grandchildren, 21 great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews, cousins, numerous brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law, and many dear friends. Vera’s children take this time to thank the people at In-Home Care and St. Joseph Hospice for the loving care and compassion they gave through her last four years. In the spring, Vera’s family and friends will gather in a memorial service in celebration of her life in Freedom. A service of Brookings-Smith, Bangor.
