BANGOR and LARGO, Fla. – FREDERICK ‘FRED’ LOWER III, SENIOR MASTER SERGEANT, RETIRED U.S. AIR FORCE,72, died unexpectedly Feb. 2, 2009, at Largo Medical Center. He was born Dec. 19, 1936, in Lakewood, Ohio, son of Frederick E. Lower II and Alida (Glansbeek) Lower. Fred was a graduate of James Rhodes High School, Lakewood, Ohio. After graduation, he entered the U.S. Air Force, retiring in 1977 after 20 years of service. Fred then joined the family business, Ray Fields Exxon service station on Harlow Street, Bangor, and for the past 20 years, had been assistant service manager and warranty officer at Downeast Toyota. He enjoyed working with the youth for the City of Bangor, where he was totally devoted and committed to the Bangor Youth and Bangor High School Football teams. Fred was a member and past master of Rising Virtue Lodge No. 10 AF & AM of Bangor, Scottish Rite Bodies Valley of Bangor, the Maine Consistory 32 Degree and Anah Shriners. Surviving are his loving wife and soulmate of 42 years, Donna M. (Fields) Lower of Bangor and Largo, Fla.; three children, Lynda R. West and her husband, Lt. Col. Robert, U.S. Air Force, retired, of Carrollton, Va., Sonya L. Parrotino and her husband, Michael, of Wichita, Kan., and Frederick E. Lower IV and his wife, Lisa, of Bangor; six grandchildren, Robby, Jenna, Danielle, Trent, Alexis and McKenzie; three sisters, Nancy Phelps of Ohio, Alida-Jo Metz and Trudy Wolskie, both of California; two brothers, John Lower of Texas and Alan Lower of Nevada; several nieces and nephews; and a special cousin, Virginia Parish of Texas. Relatives and friends are welcome to call 6-8 p.m. Friday, Feb. 6, at Brookings-Smith, 133 Center St., Bangor, where a funeral service will be held 10 a.m. Saturday, Feb. 7, with the Rev. Robert T.
