JACKMAN – Jule L. Quirion died peacefully in his sleep Feb. 1, 2009, surrounded by his family at Jackman Regional Healthcare Center. He was born March 30, 1919, in Jackman, son of Rose E. (Pease) and Henry P. Quirion. He graduated as valedictorian from Jackman High School in 1937. He joined the U.S. Army Air Corps in 1942 and was honorably discharged in 1946 at the end of World War II. He was married to and had six children with Phyllis Gourde of Jackman. He took over the family business, Quirion’s General Store, and operated it for 48 years. He was married to and had one daughter with Louise Talon of Jackman. He loved the outdoors and everything it had to offer. He trapped, fished and hunted as long as he could, until November 2008, and walked the tote roads just to be in the woods. He picked berries in the summer and never forgot his friends who could no longer pick some for themselves. He would pick cranberries every fall and make cranberry sauce mostly to give to friends and relatives. He married Magdalina Hoffler in 1981. He enjoyed life and lived it to the fullest and always had a smile and a cheery “hello.” He will be missed by many. He was predeceased by his only son, Henry P., 4; daughter, Wendy S., 16 months, in a fire in 1957; and daughter, Beverly M., 4, in 1964. He is survived by his wife, Magdalina Quirion of Jackman; his four daughters, Luana and husband, Ralph Clukey, of Skowhegan, Sharon Quirion of Jackman, Christa and husband, Richard Dillihunt, of Augusta, and Dena and husband, Armand Demers, of Falmouth; seven grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren.
