WEST ENFIELD – Melvin E. Brooks, passed away Feb. 2, 2009, at a Lincoln hospital. He was born Jan. 18, 1930, in Waterbury, Conn., the son of Melville Carl Brooks and Hazel Leisering Brooks. Mel grew up in Cheshire, Conn. He attended Cheshire schools and graduated from Crosby High and Eli Whitney Tech., New Haven, Conn. He served in the U.S. Army during the Korean War. He worked as a printing supervisor for 28 years at Risdon Manufacturing and retired from Penobscot Job Corps, after working 14 years as transportation supervisor. Mel married Rose Marie Gould, Nov. 14, 1953. They raised their family in Cheshire, Conn., until moving to West Enfield, in 1977. Surviving, in addition to his wife, Rose Marie of West Enfield, are two daughters, Robin and Myron Hile of Orono, and Lynn Brooks and Kevin Lancaster, of Etna. He is also survived by a granddaughter, Melinda Hile and fianc?, Cory Pelletier, of Greenbush; and a grandson, Dylan Lancaster of Etna. A memorial service will be held 1 p.m. Thursday at Clay Funeral Home, 7 Lee Road, Lincoln. A time of refreshments will be shared immediately after the service at the funeral home. Spring interment will be at West Enfield Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, donations in his memory may be made to purchase equipment for Unit 2 Ambulance, Howland.
