BREWER – Albert W. B. “Rip” Ripley, 88, died Wednesday, Feb. 4, 2009, at a Bangor health care facility. He was born March 6, 1920, in Greenville, son of George and Jenny (Brann) Ripley. Rip was enlisted in the U.S. Air Force from 1942 to 1946, and was most proud of his sheet metal work done on the B-17, “Memphis Belle.” He was a member of Rising Virtue Lodge No. 10 AF & AM. Rip was also a longtime volunteer at Cole Transportation Museum and enjoyed woodworking. Rip is survived by his loving wife of 58 years, Claire (Booker) Ripley; sons, Edward and his wife, Suzanne, of Brewer, James and his wife, Debra, of Concord N.H., and Robert and his wife, Peggy, of Abington, Mass; a brother, Harry and his wife, Ruth, of Missouri; grandchildren, Troy, Jason, Justin, Renee and Robert Jr.; great-grandchildren, Kyera and Kaitlyn; and one special niece, Ruthie Brown and her husband, Colin. In addition to his parents, Rip was predeceased by his son, David; and his brother, Harmon. Relatives and friends are welcome to call 6-8 p.m. Friday, Feb. 6, at Brookings-Smith, Clark-Piper Chapel, 55 South Main St., Brewer, where a service of remembrance will be held 2 p.m. Saturday, Feb. 7, with the Rev. Garnett Chute, pastor of Hermon Baptist Church, officiating. After the service relatives and friends are welcome to share conversation and refreshment at Hermon Baptist Church, 2496 Route 2, Hermon.
