HAMPDEN – Beloved husband, father, poppie, brother and uncle went home to his heavenly father unexpectedly but peacefully on Feb. 4, 2009. He was the eldest child of John and Irene (Conner), born in Mount Vernon, N.Y., on May 31, 1942, before the family settled in Framingham, Mass. He graduated from Boston College, Albany Medical School, interned at Chelsea Naval Base in Boston during the Vietnam War and then went to the University of Virginia to complete his residency in ophthalmology. He practiced medicine in the Bangor and Blue Hill area over the course of 30 years, with a special dedication to the under served and disabled. He was a devoted family man to his wife and best friend Patricia (Sherwood) for 43 years, to his children Kathleen and husband Jens, Christopher Jr., Jennifer and fiance Troy, Patrick, and Andrew, his grandchildren Hannah, Mary, Ian, Brendan, Ana, Erik and Conner, his brother John and his wife Linda, and sister Sally and her partner Sarah, his brothers-in-law Bob and Don and his wife Beth, sisters-in-law Cathy and her husband Read, and Carol, nephews Nicholas, Ryan, and Matthew, nieces Grace, Robin, Laura and Meghan. He has now joined his Mother and Father in eternal joy. Chris loved to share his love of the sea and sailing with all the family, taking them out every summer traveling up and down the coast of Maine. He was an avid gardener, providing flowers and vegetables for everyone. He had a great thirst for knowledge and loved sharing everything he learned with his children and grandchildren. He was the calm in every storm and the rock upon which we all sought refuge. The family will celebrate the life of their beloved 11 a.m. Saturday, Feb. 14, at St. John’s Catholic Church, York Street, Bangor. In lieu of flowers, anyone wishing to remember Chris in a special way may make donations to New Hope Hospice, P.O. Box 757, Holden, ME 04429 or St. Joseph Health Care, 360 Broadway, Bangor, ME 04401, both of which Chris had a great love and respect for their compassionate care of those in need. Services entrusted to Hampden-Gilpatrick Funeral & Cremation Services, 45 Western Ave., Hampden. Messages of condolence and memories may be shared through www.hampdengilpatrick.com.
