PRESQUE ISLE – Dana H. Bishop, 88, went to be with his loyalist ancestors in the early hours of Feb. 7, 2009. He was born June 28, 1920, in Fort Fairfield, son of Everett E. and Jennie (Lovely) Bishop. He was raised on the Bishop Brothers Farm on Parkhurst Siding Road. The farm was first settled by his great-grandparents, William G. and Catherine (Monahan) Bishop and later farmed in successive years by his grandparents, John E. and Delia (Weeks) Bishop; his parents, Everett and Jennie Bishop, along with his uncle and aunt, Orlin and Dorothy Bishop. Dana attended Sawyer School, Presque Isle High School, Class of 1938, and Aroostook State Normal School, graduating in 1941. After graduation he taught at Glidden Country School, Presque Isle, where he taught all eight grades in one room. He joined the Army Air Corps in 1942 and served three and a half years during World War II with the 382nd Bomb Group/ 539th Bomb Squadron. He worked as a mail carrier in Presque Isle until his retirement in 1980 and had an enjoyable retirement of nearly 30 years. After his military service, he was a blood donor for many years, donating pints of O negative blood for free, helping to save a number of lives. He enjoyed Big Band music, dancing, camping, hunting, fishing and genealogical research. His days at Cathance Lake and Big Machias Lake were among his favorites. He was a member of Trinity Lodge, Presque Isle; Anah Temple Shrine and Aroostook Shrine Club; and a proud member of Clan Campbell Society of North America. Dana was predeceased by his parents; an infant sister, Jennie Arline; and his youngest brother, Vaughn E. Bishop of Thermal, Calif. He is survived by his wife of 63 years, Marjorie (Everett) Bishop of Presque Isle; his daughter, Marcia B. Fletcher and son-in-law, David J. Fletcher, of Calais; his granddaughter, Emily Murphy and her husband, Andrew; his grandson, William Fletcher and his wife, Susan; great-granddaughter, Alexis J. Fletcher; brother, Neil E. Bishop and sister-in-law, Natalie Bishop, of Bangor; his sister-in-law, Elaine Bishop of California; several nieces and nephews; and two special cousins, Leila Bishop Smith of Presque Isle and Marion McBrine Bell of Bristol, New Brunswick. Friends may call 7-8 p.m. Thursday, Feb. 12, with a Masonic service 6:45 p.m., at Duncan-Graves Funeral Home, 30 Church St., Presque Isle, where funeral services will be held 11 a.m. Friday with the Rev. David Williams officiating. A military committal will be held in the spring at Fairmount Cemetery, Presque Isle.
