HOULTON – John Douglas Russell, 79, died Feb. 13, 2009, at a Houlton hospital. He was born Nov. 12, 1929, in Rumford, the son of George F. and Ressie (Wetmore) Russell. John attended Houlton schools, Bentley School of Accounting and Finance, Boston, and graduated from Ricker College with a Bachelor of Arts degree. John served in the U.S. Air Force at bases in Texas, Oklahoma, Newfoundland and California. He was honorably discharged with the rank of staff sergeant at Long Beach, Calif. He is survived by daughters, Lynn Babineau and her husband, Skip, of Easton and Diane Allen and her husband, George, of Fond du Lac, Wis.; and brothers, George Russell of Houlton and Paul and his wife, Patricia, of West Allis, Wis. Also surviving are sisters, Frances Way and her husband, Robert, of Moore Haven, Fla., Carol Lambert of Hodgdon, Nancy Hutchinson and her husband, Carl, of Monticello and Susan Couch of Bristol, Conn.; granddaughter, Ariana Babineau of Easton; several nieces and nephews. A springtime burial service will be announced at a later date. Memorial donations may be made to Cary Library, 107 Main St., Houlton, ME 04730 or the charity of the donor’s choice.
