HOWLAND – Muriel L. Spearin, 87, wife of the late Elwyn Spearin, passed away Feb. 15, 2009, at a Howland health care facility. She was born May 16, 1921, in Lee, the daughter of Daniel and Sadie (Crocker) Murchison. Muriel was a member of Howland United Methodist Church and a member of VFW Post No. 9429 Auxiliary, West Enfield. She owned and operated Route 6 Diner, Howland, for 10 years. She was an avid Red Sox fan and an avid University of Maine hockey fan. She enjoyed puzzles, playing Yahtzee and spending time with her family. She is survived by four daughters, Cheryl and Maynard Maxwell of Lee, Judith and Ronald Lindquist, Muriel Grindle, and Beverly and Allan Pendleton, all of Howland; 17 grandchildren, 35 great-grandchildren, two sisters-in-law, several nieces and nephews. She also leaves her beloved cats, Bloomers, Mindy and Tommy. In addition to her parents and her husband, she was predeceased by a son-in-law, Raymond Grindle; a granddaughter, a great-granddaughter and 13 brothers and sisters. Friends may call 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. Monday at Clay Funeral Home, 7 Lee Road, Lincoln. Funeral services will be held 1 p.m. Tuesday at Howland United Methodist Church with the Rev. Dr. Bruce Young and Emma Jean Cook officiating. Spring interment will be at Woodlawn Cemetery, Lee. In lieu of flowers, donations in her memory may be made to Howland United Methodist Church.
