Folks at The Alamo Theatre are inviting the public to a benefit soiree for Andy Lacher at 5:30 p.m. Thursday, Feb. 19, at the theater, 85 Main St. in Bucksport.

Tickets are $10 and are available at The Alamo (Northeast Historic Film) and Rosen’s Department Store.

Lacher, the owner of BookStacks in downtown Bucksport, fell on Christmas Eve, severely injuring his knee and ankle, and has been homebound since then.

Lacher does not have insurance, and members of the community have conducted several fundraising events to help cover the costs for him, one of their favorite local residents.

The evening includes hors d’oeuvres provided by MacLeod’s Restaurant and a cash bar with wine and soda.

Bucksport economic development director Dave Milan is organizing an auction, and, according to the release, The Alamo will feature a movie made by and starring Lacher, produced during his college days, titled “Tracks in the Snow.”

Also showing is “The Bucksport Movie Queen 2000,” in which Lacher has a starring role.

Lacher’s neighbors and friends urge you to attend the soiree and visit with this gentleman who has been out of touch with his community for a while.

Mary MacKay reports that The Salvation Army Family Store is conducting a clothing drive 10 a.m.-6 p.m. Thursday, Feb. 19, through Saturday, Feb. 21, at Shaw’s Supermarket on Main Street and near Marshall’s at the Airport Mall on Union Street, both in Bangor.

“The Salvation Army depends on the generosity of people to help meet the needs of people in and around” Greater Bangor, she wrote.

“This is the time of year when clothing donations are down because people are not holding yard sales or cleaning closets and basements, etc. We are hoping to make this easier for those wanting to make a donation at this time.

“Coupons for discounts and-or free stuff when a donation is made” will be available along with receipts for tax deductions.

MacKay reminds you that donations can be made between 9 a.m. and 6 p.m. Monday through Saturday at the Family Store, 585 Broadway in Bangor.

“This is a great time to get some space in those closets and make a difference in the lives of those less fortunate in our community,” MacKay wrote, thanking donors in advance “for any help you can give.”
