CALAIS – Dorothy “Dolly” Minnie Sawyer, 65, died unexpectedly Tuesday, Feb. 17, 2009, at Calais Regional Hospital. Dolly was born June 26, 1943, in New Castle, New Brunswick, daughter of the late Roy and Dorothy (Dunnett) Allison. After attending New Castle, New Brunswick, area schools, she went to New Brunswick Bible Institute, where she met Richard “Dick” Sawyer, her beloved husband for the last 45 years. After their wedding, Nov. 16, 1963, they relocated to Charlotte. Dolly started work as a housekeeper for the Treworgy family in Calais. She eventually worked in housekeeping at Barnard’s Nursing Home and Calais Regional Hospital until her retirement. Dolly enjoyed reading, scrapbooking, knitting, raking blueberries and spending time with her family. In addition to her parents, Dolly was predeceased by a brother, John; and two sisters, Betty and Mae. Surviving are her loving husband, Dick Sawyer; her two daughters, Darlene Horne and her husband, Michael, of St. Stephen, New Brunswick, and June Fry and her husband, David, of Rochester, Minn.; a sister, Kathleen Shaddick of Derby, New Brunswick; four brothers, her twin, Roy Allison and Raymond Allison, both of Derby, New Brunswick, David Allison and his wife, Taffi, of Ontario and Weldon Allison and his wife, Phyllis, of Trout Brook, New Brunswick; three grandchildren, Kaitlin, Joshua and Jared Fry, all of Minnesota; three stepgrandchildren, Chris Horne and his wife, Veronic, of St. Stephen, Kate Horne of Toronto and Julie Horne of Halifax; her feline companion, Stanley; many nieces and nephews, and many dear friends. Visiting hours will be held 1-2 p.m. Saturday, Feb. 21, at Mays Funeral Home, 26 Church St., Calais, where a funeral service will begin 2 p.m. A spring burial will take place at Clarkside Cemetery, Pembroke.
