PRESQUE ISLE – J. Roger Erskine, 93, died Friday, Feb. 14, 2009, at his home in Black Mountain, N.C. He was born April 17 1915, in Presque Isle, the son of John W. and Mae (Coffey) Erskine. Educated in Presque Isle schools, he graduated from Husson College, Bangor, and from Rutgers University’s business program. He was married to Helene Folsom, in 1939. For many years Roger continued in the family farming tradition in Aroostook County. In 1957, he became a finance officer with Northern National Bank, and became its president in 1972, retiring in 1980. During retirement, the Erskine’s traveled extensively before settling in North Carolina’s Blue Ridge area. After several years in Hendersonville, N.C., they moved in 1993 to the retirement community of Highland Farms, Black Mountain, N.C., where they lived until their deaths. Mr. Erskine is survived by sons, John of Millersville, Md., and Brian of Nashua, N.H.; and four grandchildren. A memorial service will be held 1 p.m. Feb. 26 at Unitarian Universalist Church, Asheville, N.C.
