BUCKSPORT – Ruth I. Kettell, 93, died Friday, Feb. 20, 2009, at Stillwater Health Care. She was born Jan. 20, 1916, in Bucksport, the youngest child of Erastus G. and Alice J. (Bridges) Allison. Ruth was raised in the farmhouse her father built in 1888 and she lived there again the last 28 years of her life. Ruth had lovely flower gardens that were her pride and that delighted many visitors and those who viewed them as they passed by. Ruth was active at Senior Citizens, North Bucksport United Methodist Church, Flying Needles Club and was a member of Floral Grange No. 158 for more than 50 years. Her companion for the past 10 years was a very large Maine Coon cat, Mickey, who now lives happily with granddaughter, Karen. Ruth was predeceased by a son, David A. Kettell, in 2005; and by her sisters and brothers, Julia Hincks, Edith Wardwell, Sherman, Roland and Ross Allison. She is survived by her son, Alfred E. Kettell and his wife, Lisa and their daughter, Lara, all of Pennsylvania, and their daughter, Anna, of Livermore Falls. She is also survived by David’s children, Michael, Eric and Jonathan Kettell, Karen Gordon and Lisa Pye; their mother, Marion Tozier, all of the Bucksport area; many dear nieces, nephews and great-grandchildren. Family and friends are invited to attend a memorial reception to celebrate Ruth’s memory 1-5 p.m. Thursday, Feb. 26, at Bucksport Golf Club, Route 46, Bucksport. Graveside services will be held in the spring. Interment will be at Evergreen Hills Cemetery.
