BANGOR – Otha Whitfield Corey, 90, passed away peacefully Feb. 22, 2009, at the Maine Veterans’ Home, Bangor. He was born April 19, 1918, in Newport, son of Rueben and Laverna Corey. Otha was a proud veteran of the U.S. Army and served in the Pacific during World War II. He had lived in Hampden for 40 years and was a salesman for many years. He was predeceased by his beloved wife, Nina (Webster) Corey in 2000; by two brothers, Allen and Orman Corey; and a daughter-in-law, Terri Corey. Surviving are his children, Richard O. and Ellen Corey of South China, Bruce L. Corey of Brewer, Steven D. and Carolyn Corey of Brewer, and Gary W. and Marie Corey of Newburyport, Mass.; grandchildren, Eric and Linda Corey of Jackman, Marc and Heather Corey of Eddington, Michelle Tanguay of Dedham, and Rebecca and Jason Petrie of Oakland; and great-grandchildren, Travis, Suzanna, Alexa and Ashley. Otha’s family thanks the Maine Veterans’ Home staff for the love and care shown to him throughout the years. A graveside service will be announced in the springtime by Hampden-Gilpatrick Funeral Home, 45 Western Ave., Hampden.
