BREWER – Pearl H. “Memere” Forrest, 87, formerly of Troy, passed away Monday, Feb. 23, 2009, holding hands with her loving husband of 66 years. Her beloved youngest daughter and her youngest granddaughter were by her side. She was born April 15, 1921, in Fall River, Mass., and was daughter of the late Joseph and Louise (St. Pierre) Beaulieu. Pearl is survived by her husband, Charley; daughters, Charlene Forrest of Newport and Pene Southerland of Brewer; sister, Pauline Putnam of Denton, Texas; two grandsons, Pete Southerland of Raymond, and Kennie Thompson and wife, Debbie, of Dighton, Mass.; and four granddaughters, Desiree Clark of Morales, Mexico, Donna Keenan and husband, Bill, of Sullivan, Sandie Southerland and husband, Neil, of Hampden, and Sam Henke and husband, Clifford, of Erwin, N.C.; 11 great-grandchildren and six great-great-grandchildren. Pearl was predeceased by her mother and father, Joseph and Louise Beaulieu; brothers, Romeo Beaulieu and George Beaulieu; and sisters, Juliet Brodeur, Eleanore Maher and Enola Beaulieu. Pearl lived in the Philippines, where she was president of Subic Bay Navy Wives Club, and taught swimming and square dancing to the second and third grade children. While there, she volunteered at the Subic Bay military hospital and also made items for the children at the Leprosarium, Manila. After moving to Troy, she was employed as a ballot clerk, a delegate for the Democratic committee and on the budget committee. She was president and secretary for the following, Columbus Guild of Waterville, Waterville National Council of Catholic Women, St. Agnes Guild, Troy Auxiliary Fire Department, the University of Maine – Orono Cooperative Extension of Waldo and Senior Citizens of Troy. Pearl was an avid fan of the Boston Red Sox and was overjoyed to see them win two World Championships. She spent many hours knitting and crocheting items that she donated to the children’s ward at Eastern Maine Medical Center. She created the theme song for the ladies in her chapter of the Red Hat Society. She was “Memere” to many children in Troy, where she took great pleasure in caring for her “extended families.” Pearl touched many lives with her kindness and generosity and will be deeply missed by family and friends, but she is at peace with her heavenly Father. Viewing will be held 11 a.m.-1 p.m. Friday, Feb. 27, at Unity Centre for the Performing Arts, Depot Street, Unity, with a service immediately after. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to her favorite charity, St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital, 501 St. Jude Place, Memphis, TN 38105-1942.
