MAPLETON – Delbert M. Stevens, 55, passed away peacefully March 2, 2009, at The Aroostook Medical Center, Presque Isle, after a courageous battle with cancer. He was born Oct. 20, 1953, in Presque Isle, the eldest son of Albert M. and Jeannette D. (Dionne) Stevens. Del graduated from Presque Isle High School in 1972. He attended the University of Rochester and the University of Maine. He spent most of his working years employed in the heavy construction industry, which included a 10-year career with Cianbro Corp. He is survived by his wife of 19 years, Colleen (Higgins) Stevens of Mapleton; seven siblings, Beverly S. Anderson of Winter Park, Fla., Matthew J. Stevens and his wife, Starr, of Tarpon Springs, Fla., Bradford J. Stevens, a special brother, Kent H. Stevens, both of Presque Isle, Martha Barnes and her husband, Mark, of Gorham, Daniel J. Stevens and his wife, Priscilla, of Winthrop, and Jennifer Stevens-Curwood and her husband, Stephen, of Nottingham, N.H.; several nieces and nephews. Del was predeceased by his parents. At Delbert’s request, there will be no funeral services. A private celebration of his life will be held in the spring at his home in Mapleton.
