INDIAN TOWNSHIP – Faye Marie Nicholas, 64, passed away peacefully Monday, March 2, 2009, at her home with her family by her side. Faye was born Oct. 24, 1944, in Portland, daughter of the late Edward and Faye (Smith) Russell. After high school, Faye attended St. Joseph’s College and the University of Maine, Orono and Machias, where she completed her para-professional associate degree. She married Carl Nicholas, Dec. 25, 1959, in Hartford, Conn. Faye taught school at Indian Township School until her death. She enjoyed bowling, bingo, her students, and spending time with her children and grandchildren. In addition to her parents, Faye was predeceased by two brothers, Dewey Smith and Chalmus Russell; and two grandchildren, Eric and Kristen Nicholas. Surviving are her loving husband of 49 years, Carl Nicholas Sr.; eight children, Carl Nicholas Jr. and his companion, Brenda Pond, Dolores Acheson and her husband, Gordon, Alex Nicholas and his wife, Regina, Leslie Nicholas and his wife, Maria, Lisa Sockabasin and her husband, Aubrey, Margaret Nicholas, Carla Gillespie and her husband, Bill, and Gov. Bill Nicholas and his wife, Lucy, all of Indian Township; a sister, Grace Bustamante and her companion, Larry, of Buxton; a brother, Robert Russell and his wife, Philomena, of Windham; 33 grandchildren, 20 great-grandchildren, many nieces and nephews; special friends, Patricia, Blanche and Gloria Sockabasin, Diane Tomah, Chris Goldsmith and Rosemary Butcher; many other dear friends, and her extended family at Indian Township School. Visiting hours will begin 1 p.m. Tuesday, March 3, until 10 a.m. Thursday at her home, 52 Kennebasis Road, Indian Township. A Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated 11 a.m. Thursday at St. James the Greater R.C. Church, 56 Summit St., Baileyville, by the Rev. James Plourde. Burial will be held at a later date.
