MANSFIELD, Mass., GREAT FALLS, Va., and FRANKLIN – Lisle Goodwin Fernald Jr., 88, died Feb. 27, 2009, at Fairfax Hospital, Fairfax, Va. He was born March 13, 1920, in Franklin, the son of Lisle G. Fernald Sr. and Genie M. (Jones) Fernald. Lisle grew up in Maine. He served in the U.S. Army from 1942 to 1947. After Lisle and his wife, Helen E. (Coombs) Fernald married, they made their home in Mansfield, Mass. Lisle worked at a number of factories as a machinist, retiring in Foxboro. Lisle also enjoyed the game of cribbage. He is survived by his daughter, Katherine F. Darsch of Great Falls, Va.; a son, Wayne Michaud of Kentucky; and three grandchildren, Davis Darsch, Melinda and Kelly Michaud. He was predeceased by his wife, June 11, 2001; and by his brother, Douglas B. Fernald, Nov. 19, 1993. Friends are invited to call 4-6 p.m. Thursday, March 5, at Jordan-Fernald, 113 Franklin St., Ellsworth, where funeral services will also be held 10 a.m. Friday, March 6.
