BANGOR and MILFORD – Sylvia “Jane” Coffin, 66, died peacefully Feb. 28, 2009, at home with her loving family at her side, after a courageous battle with cancer. She was born Dec. 27, 1942, in Bangor, the daughter of Charles and Margaret Tuck. Jane was a 1960 graduate of Bangor High School. She worked several years in the neonatal intensive care unit at Eastern Maine Medical Center as a unit secretary. She also worked at Frank’s Bakery, where she befriended many people. Later she went on to provide home caregiving. Jane not only brightened the lives of her “ladies,” she brightened the lives of their families as well. Jane loved and was very proud of her family. Raising her sons and watching them raise families of their own, culminating in the birth of her great-grandson, Kaleb, a year ago, was Jane’s proudest achievement. She is survived by her loving husband of 49 years, Melvin Gene Coffin of Milford; two sons, Donnie and his wife, Jackie Coffin, of Milford, and Scott and his wife, Vicki Coffin, of Carmel; grandchildren, Stacey and Ryan Coffin of Carmel, Heather and Joshua Coffin of Milford; a special great-grandson, Kaleb Scott Coffin, who she lovingly referred to as “Mr. K”; three brothers, Warren “Sonny” Young of Bangor, Bill Tuck and his wife, Ethel, of Bangor, and Dick Tuck and his wife, Lorraine, of Eddington; a sister, Grace Parker and her husband, Gil, of Bottle Lake; several nieces and nephews; very special friends, Pam and Tom Pooley of Levant; and two special family members, Diane Thompson and Rosie Levasseur. She was predeceased by her parents, Margaret and Charles Tuck; a sister, Gloria Spencer and her husband, Chuck. The family thanks CancerCare of Maine for providing excellent care; also Valerie of New Hope Hospice for her loving care and support at this difficult time. Honoring Jane’s wishes, a memorial service will be announced at a later date in the spring. Memorial donations in her memory may be made to CancerCare of Maine, care of Healthcare Charities, P.O.
