BANGOR – Harold L. Crane, 86, died, Tuesday, March 3, 2009, with his family at his side. He was born June 20, 1922, in Palmyra, Mo., the son of Walter and Letha Crane. Harold grew up in Palmyra, Mo. He served as an orderly in the U.S. Army during World War II on a hospital ship. After the war, he and his wife, Dorothy of Bangor, moved back to her home on Broadway, where they raised eight children. Harold was employed at Bangor Water District for 43 years. The Harold Crane Booster Pumping Station was dedicated Nov. 16, 1996, in honor of his years of service. He spent the last several years of his life enjoying the company of his children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren. In his own time, he enjoyed puttering around the house, using his handyman skills and helping the TV judges render their decisions during the afternoon lineup. Harold is survived by his brother, Melvin Crane of Hannibal, Mo.; sons, Steven and his wife, Carlyn, of Westbrook, Ronald and his wife, Donna, of Bangor, Daniel of Glenburn and Dennis and his wife, Heidi, of Brewer; daughters, Diana Plummer of Glenburn, Donna Crane of Bangor and Anita Crane and fiance, Darrell King, of Bangor; grandchildren, Ashley King of Bangor, Jason Crane of Altemonte Springs, Fla., Jenny Hart and her husband, Aaron and their daughter, Chloe, of Orrington, Brian Plummer, his wife, Amy, and their children, Amber and Dalton, of Tampa Fla.; special sister-in-law, Pheobe Jenkins of Brewer; and special friend, Joseph Plummer of Clearwater, Fla. In addition to his parents, Harold was predeceased by his wife, Dorothy (Jenkins) Crane; son, Harold Jr.; brothers, Harvey, Alonzo and Raymond; and sisters, Doris and Flossie Mae. Relatives and friends are welcome to call 3-5 p.m. Saturday, March 7, at Brookings-Smith, 133 Center St., Bangor, where a funeral service will be held 2 p.m. Sunday, March 8, with Mr. Jim Cook officiating. Interment will be held in the spring. After the service, relatives and friends are invited to share conversation and refreshments at Brookings-Smith Family Center, 163 Center St., Bangor.
