VAN BUREN and MADA-WASKA – Herman Guy Pelletier, 53, passed away March 4, 2009, at Gosnell Memorial Hospice Home, Scarborough. He was born Feb. 24, 1956, in Fort Kent, son of Roland and Theresa (Tardif) Pelletier. He graduated from Madawaska High School in 1974 and enlisted in the U.S. Army, where he served as a military police officer in Germany. After the service, he attended Maine Criminal Justice Academy and was hired as a police officer in the town of Van Buren and then police chief. Herman most recently worked as a security guard at Fraser Papers, Madawaska. He also served several terms as the American Legion Post commander in Van Buren, where he took great pride in honoring our nation’s veterans. Herman was currently a trustee of Van Buren Water District. Herman was known for his quick wit and sharp humor. He loved to cook great meals and share it with loved ones and provided many meals for the members of American Legion Post No. 49 of Van Buren. He was also a fan of the New York Yankees and Montreal Canadians, even daring to wear one of their jerseys once at a Bruins game. He is survived by his parents, Roland and Theresa (Tardif) Pelletier of Madawaska; an adopted son, Eric Pelletier; a brother, Ricky Pelletier and his wife, Elaine, of Madawaska; sister, Linda Propheter and husband, Rick, of Walkersville, Md.; sister, Brenda Libby of Biddeford; sister, Karen Lavoie and husband, Rino, of Madawaska; sister, Sharon Ayer, and husband, Herb, of Corinth; several nieces and nephews, Tony Hanson and wife, Amy, of Limerick, Erin Pelletier and husband, Steve, of Bangor, Michelle Beaulieu of New York City, Kristin Harvey and husband, Jason, of Bangor, Billy Hanson of Los Angeles, Emily Hanson of Old Orchard Beach, Mallory, Alex, Lindsey and Lance Lavoie of Madawaska and Harrison Ayer of Corinth; along with several great-nieces and great-nephews, Nathan Hanson, Brady Pelletier and Maddison Harmon; a special godson, Jake Rivard; and special friends, Tina, Pat, Olivia and Emma Ayotte. Relatives and friends may call 11 a.m. until the time of service Saturday at Ouellette-Thibault Funeral Home, 118 High St., Van Buren. A funeral Mass will be celebrated 1 p.m. Saturday at St. Bruno-St. Remi Catholic Church. Spring interment will be at the Maine Veterans’ Cemetery, Caribou. In lieu of flowers, the family has established Herman Pelletier Memorial Scholarship Fund, for students pursuing a career in criminal justice.
