MACHIASPORT – Roy C. Hartfield, 79, went to be with his Lord, unexpectedly Feb. 23, 2009, at his home. He was born Sept. 12, 1929, in Billings, Mont., son of Roy and Elsie Hartfield. He served four years in the U.S. Navy and was a member of Machias Valley Baptist Church. He is survived by his loving wife of 56 years, Shirley (Sargent) Hartfield of Machiasport; one son, Bruce S. Hartfield and wife, Jeannette, of Ohio; three daughters, Donna Parker of Columbia, Karen Crocker and her husband, Gary, of California and Lori Gauthier of Steuben; grandchildren, Christopher, Kristin, Casey, Allyson, Jacqueline and Jennifer; several nieces and nephews, and special friends back in Rhode Island. A remembrance dinner will be held after church services March 8 at Machias Valley Baptist Church, with a memorial service held 2 p.m. A private graveside service will be held at a later date. In lieu of flowers, contributions in Roy’s name may be made to Machias Valley Baptist Church.
