MILLINOCKET – Alton R. Lane, 80, died Friday, March 6, 2009, at a Millinocket health care facility. He was born Aug. 10, 1928, in Millinocket, the son of John A. and Alice M. (Stitham) Lane. Alton was a man of many hobbies, including boating, spending time at his camp, traveling, skiing and visiting Disney World. He also enjoyed finished woodworking and will be remembered for the carpentry work he did in many kitchens in the area. Alton served his country in the U.S. Navy from 1946 to 1948. He is survived by two daughters, Carla Birt and her husband, Arthur, of Cumberland Center and Wendy Lane Doiron and her husband, Gerald, of Levant; three grandchildren, Justin Birt, Adam Birt and Christopher Doiron and his friend, Jessica Rideout; a brother, Marvin “Red” Lane and his wife, Marianne, of Millinocket; a sister, Ruth Jewell of North Carolina; many nieces, nephews and cousins. In addition to his parents, Alton was predeceased by his wife, Isabelle F. “Billie” (Boutaugh) Lane. Friends are invited to visit with the family 1-3 p.m. Saturday, March 14, at Lamson Funeral Home, 11 Tamarack St., Millinocket, with funeral services beginning 3 p.m. Spring interment will be at Millinocket Cemetery.
