CROMWELL, Conn. – Barbara June (Kearns) Sciacca, 83, wife of the late Louis J. Sciacca, passed away Thursday, March 5, 2009, at Middlesex Hospital. Born in Hampden, she was a daughter of the late Thomas and Catherine (Slager) Kearns. Barbara lived in Portland, moving to Cromwell, Conn., in the early 1970s. Barbara loved watching sports on TV, especially college and professional basketball games, and enjoyed attending American Legion baseball games at Palmer Field, Middletown, Conn. She also was an avid fan of tennis and golf and attended many GHO events in Cromwell, Conn. She is survived by her children, Carol S. Foell and her husband, Duke, of Boynton Beach, Fla., John L. Sciacca and his wife, Roberta, of Durham, Conn., Suzanne S. Larson and her husband, David, of Cromwell, Conn., and Kathryn S. Ekstrom and her husband, Scott, of Cromwell, Conn.; two brothers, James “Mickey” Kearns of Bangor and Robert Kearns of San Francisco; two sisters, Catherine “DoDo” George of Kennebunk and Ann “Flo” Passamano; three grandsons, James “Jimbo” Rau, Scott Ekstrom Jr. and Kristofor Ekstrom; the Kearns and Sciacca family members, many nieces and nephews. Barbara’s family thanks her very special caregivers at Ridgeview Health Care Center, Cromwell, Conn., for their special attention and kindness. Funeral services will be held 9 a.m. Monday, March 9, at Cromwell Funeral Home, 506 Main St., Cromwell, Conn., with a Mass of Christian Burial 10 a.m. at St. John Church, 5 St. John Court, Cromwell, Conn., with the Rev. Mitchell Sawicki officiating. Interment will be after at the State Veterans’ Cemetery, Middletown, Conn. Friends may call 4-6 p.m. Sunday evening at the funeral home.
