MILLINOCKET – Harry C. Briggs II, 65, died unexpectedly Thursday, March 5, 2009, at a Bangor hospital from complications of heart surgery. He was born March 12, 1943, in Houlton, the son of Wilbur and Mabel (King) Briggs. Harry grew up in Northern Maine, and worked for the Bangor and Aroostook Railroad as a conductor for 35 years. He was an avid outdoorsman and loved spending time at his camp in the North Maine Woods. Harry enjoyed being with his children and grandchildren who loved him dearly. He was a devoted father and grandfather. Harry was an outgoing person with a unique sense of humor, who made an impression on everyone he met. He was generous to a fault and will be remembered by many for his contributions. Harry was a lifetime member of the National Rifle Association, the United Transportation Union, the Fin and Feather Club of Millinocket. He was a longtime dedicated friend of Bill W., where he met and maintained many close friends. Harry is survived by three children, Wendy Briggs and her companion, Steve, of Medway, Jodi Vaznis and her husband, Bob, of Millinocket and Jarod Briggs and his fianc?e, Debbie Morrison, of Millinocket; four grandchildren, Tara Vaznis, “Grampy’s Girl” Abbi Briggs, his fishing buddy, Jarod “J.W.” Briggs Jr. and Cote Briggs; two stepgrandchildren, Melissa Morrison and Derek St. Peter; siblings, Joyce Murchie and her husband, Harley, of Lincoln, Vaughn Briggs and his wife, Marilyn, of Gorham, N.H., and Gayle Tewksbury and her husband, Clarke, of Middleton, Conn.; several nieces, nephews, cousins and friends. He will also be missed by special friends, Russ Card and his wife, Theresa, and Tom Rideout. In addition to his parents, Harry was predeceased by a special aunt, Ella Welton. Friends are invited to visit with the family 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. Thursday, March 12, at Lamson Funeral Home, 11 Tamarack St., Millinocket, where funeral services will be held 11 a.m. Friday, March 13, with Deacon Danny Watson officiating. Spring interment will be at Millinocket Cemetery.
