WINTER HAVEN, Fla. — Jason Rago hit three doubles and three singles while driving in three runs as Fairfield University of Connecticut pounded the University of Maine 16-3 in baseball action Friday.

Tucker Nathans had two doubles and three runs scored for 1-5 Fairfield. Ryan Furbeck hit a double and drove in three runs. Tyler Wosieger and Mark Skrapits knocked in two runs each. Chris Horning doubled and singled.

Kevin McAvoy of Brewer led the 4-5 Black Bears with a single and a solo home run. Danny Menendez and Justin Leisenheimer each singled twice.

Maine wins two

At Kissimmee, Fla., the University of Maine ran its winning streak to five games as the Black Bears earned two wins Friday.

Maine defeated Indiana University-Purdue University Fort Wayne 3-1 in the first game and beat the University of Detroit 8-1 in the second game.

In the first game, Alexis Souhlaris allowed one run on two hits and one walk while striking out one through seven innings to lead the Black Bears. Ashley Waters homered and singled while Kristen Calvetti had two singles and a run scored.

In the second game, Terren Hall had two doubles and a single with three RBIs for 10-10 Maine. Courtney Gingrich hit a single and her first home run of the season. Kali Burnham and Kirsten Allen each had two hits.
