PITTSFIELD – Maxine Raye Pease, 89, was called to her heavenly home unexpectedly March 9, 2009. She was born Feb. 22, 1920, in Vanceboro, the daughter of Frank C. and Icy L. (Trafton) Raye. She graduated from Vanceboro High School in 1938 and Aroostook State Normal School in 1941. She received her Bachelor of Science in elementary education from the University of Maine at Farmington in 1974. She taught school in Detroit, Old Orchard Beach, Presque Isle and SAD 53 Pittsfield, retiring in 1982, but she continued substituting until the age of 75. She attended Pleasant Street Christian Church, Corinna, where she and her husband, Clifton, were active serving on the visitation committee for several years. In recent years, she attended Burnham Baptist Church. Her greatest joy was serving the older citizens of the community. She was predeceased by her husband of 58 years, Clifton; a sister, Thelma Cropley; and brothers, Joseph, Clifford and Aubrey Raye. Survivors include four daughters, Rae Williams of Lewiston, Bonnie Gantnier and her husband, Larry, of Cortez, Fla., Krista Pease of Skowhegan and Lois Richmond and husband, James, of Wildomar, Calif.; one son, Blake Pease and wife, Michelle, of Wells; nine grandchildren, 11 great-grandchildren, several nieces, nephews and friends. Funeral services will be conducted 3 p.m. Saturday, March 14, at Pleasant Street Christian Church, Corinna, with the Rev. Edward Jaworski officiating. Spring burial will be in the family lot at Detroit Village Cemetery.
