BANGOR – Laura I. McCarty, wife of the late Walter James McCarty, died March 14, 2009, at a local health care center. She was born in Canada, daughter of Ira and Laura Gosmon. Laura had been employed by the New England Telephone and Telegraph Co., retiring in 1987. She attended St. John’s Episcopal Church and was an active and dedicated member of the Bangor YMCA. Surviving are two sons, W. Peter McCarty of Kalamazoo, Mich., and Paul W. McCarty of Delray, Fla.; and two grandsons, Cullen Walter McCarty and Jackson William McCarty. Relatives and friends are welcome to call 5-7 p.m. Wednesday, March 18, at Brookings-Smith, 133 Center St., Bangor, where a service of remembrance will be held 2 p.m. Thursday, March 19, with the Rev. Cannon Mary Ann Taylor, pastoral associate of St. John’s Episcopal Church, Bangor, officiating. Private interment will be in Charlottetown, Prince Edward Island.
