Applications are being accepted for the 19th annual Maine Open Juried Art Show presented by the Waterville Area Art Society and Waterville Main Street, March 28-April 25, at The Blue Marble Gallery, 167 Main St. in Waterville.
Erik Thomas of The Blue Marble reports this show is “open to all amateur and professional artists” 18 and older and is a juried one “that highlights the remarkable and diverse talent of Maine’s finest artists.”
The semiformal opening night reception is 6:30-8:30 p.m. Tuesday, March 31, at The Blue Marble.
The cash prizes include $500 for best in show, $300 for the realistic landscape award, $200 for the judges award and $200 for the Harry Faust memorial award; $150 for first place, $100 for second and $75 for third places in each category, and for the people’s choice award.
Special merit awards and judges choice awards also will be presented.

The event benefits programs for residents of the nonprofit Phillips-Strickland House in Bangor,

Carol Gilbert of Orland, an associate member of the Korean War Veterans of Bangor Chapter, called to let readers know that organization “is still accepting applications for walkway stones for the Maine Korean War Memorial,” which is in Mount Hope Cemetery in Bangor.
The walkway stones range in price from $125 to $200 and $50 and $75 of that, respectively, goes to continuous care of the site.

Congratulations are extended to Maine-based Weathervane Seafood Restaurants on being selected by the Make-A-Wish Foundation of Maine as the recipient of its 2008 Community Spirit Award.
According to a press release, Weathervane’s chief operating officer, Jeremy Gagner, was presented the award earlier this month in recognition of the success of the Weathervane Annual Charity Golf Tournaments held in September.
