BANGOR and SOUTH PARIS – Ruby M. Merrill, 102, died March 15, 2009, at a South Paris health care facility. She was born Oct. 2, 1906, in Dorn Ridge, New Brunswick, the daughter of Chesley and Laura M. (Flewelling) Haines. Ruby was a member of Calvary Baptist Church, Brewer, for many years. She lived on her own as a widow until age 95, then with some children and grandchildren. At age 101, she became a resident of Market Square Health Care Center, South Paris. She is survived by her children, Dr. Eugene H. Merrill of Dallas, Laura Mavis Perkins of Bradford, Mass., Miriam M. Loghry of Pascoag, R.I., and Southington, Conn., Orrin H. Merrill Jr. of Millinocket and Erwin R. Merrill of South Paris; nine grandchildren, Paul Loghry, Donald Loghry, Heather Rushing, Dr. Sonya Merrill, Peter Merrill, Nathan Merrill, Amy Miele, Dr. Rachel Cornacchio and Cheryl Perkins; 13 great-grandchildren, several nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her husband, Orrin H. Merrill Sr. in 1970; three sisters, Alberta Dunphy, Winifred Thurber and Della Haines; and four brothers, Fred, Eldon, Ralph and Harry Haines. Relatives and friends may call 11:30 a.m.-12:30 p.m. Saturday, March 28, at Brookings-Smith, Clark-Piper Chapel, 55 South Main St., Brewer, where a funeral service will be held 12:30 p.m. with her son, Dr. Eugene Merrill of Dallas Theological Seminary, Texas, officiating. Interment will be at Pine Grove Cemetery, Bangor. The family invites relatives and friends to share conversation and refreshments after the interment at Advent Christian Church, 2141 Broadway, Bangor. In lieu of flowers, memorial gifts in Ruby’s memory may be made to a charity of one’s choice.
