HAMPDEN – William Adams Gormely, 67, passed away peacefully March 20, 2009, at his home with his loving family by his side. William was born April 24, 1941, in Bangor. Bill graduated from high school in W?rzburg, Germany, before graduating from the University of Maine, Orono. He then worked for the Department of Transportation for 43 years, retiring as the superintendent of the maintenance division. Bill enjoyed woodworking and carpentry, with which he built many fine works of art, including his and Terry’s home. He was a devoted member of Church of the Open Door, Hampden, for many years. Bill will be remembered as a loving son, husband, father, brother and friend to all. Bill is survived by his mother, Noreen (Adams) Gormely of Brewer; his loving wife of 23 years, Terry (Dexter) Gormely of Hampden; his children, Kelly Marsella and husband, John, of Hope Valley, R.I., William Adams Gormely II and wife, Kimberly, of Durham, Susan Genevieve Gormely of Warwick, R.I., Lisa Pangburn and husband, Scott, of Dover-Foxcroft, Tracey Murrell and husband, Paul, of Scarborough, Trudy Richards and husband, Russell, of Hampden and Kristi Swartz and husband, Michael, of Hermon; sisters, Judith Noreen Gormely, Barbara Lawson and husband, David, and Elizabeth Joan Gormely, all of Brewer; brother, John Gormely and wife, Nancy, of Holden; 16 grandchildren, one aunt, two uncles; his mother-in-law, Patricia Dexter of Bangor; many nieces and nephews too numerous to mention. Bill was predeceased by his father, John Edward Gormely. A memorial service to celebrate Bill’s life will be held 1 p.m. Tuesday, March 24, at Church of the Open Door, 270 Main Road North, Hampden, with the Rev. Mark Fowler officiating. Family and friends are invited to visit 12:30 p.m. until the time of service. Interment will be private at Lakeview Cemetery, Hampden.
