PALMYRA – Grace L. Leavitt, 94, went to be with her Lord Saturday, March 21, 2009, at a Brewer health care facility. She was born April 15, 1914, in Parkman, daughter of James and Sadie (Trisdale) Dunn. She attended schools in Parkman. Grace married her devoted and loving husband, Harry Leavitt, March 3, 1930, and he predeceased her Feb. 3, 1999. Grace was employed for many years at Northeast Shoe Co., Pittsfield, and Snowflake Canning, Hartland. For more than 30 years, Grace and Harry owned and operated the family farm in Palmyra. After selling the family farm they owned and operated convenience stores in Madison, Pittsfield and Ripley for several years. Grace enjoyed spending time with her family and the light of her life was when she could spend time with her great-granddaughter, Samantha. She enjoyed crocheting beautiful afghans for her family, watching Danny ODonald and going to lawn sales. She was a wonderful cook and her specialty was baking apple pies. Grace was a loving and caring mom, who raised and kept a family of nine children together. “We owe our mom a lifetime of gratitude for her dedication to all of us. We have been blessed to have her for our mom for all of these years.” Grace is survived by two daughters and their husbands, Leola and George Moody of Pittsfield and Patricia and Richard Holt of Oakland; six sons and their wives, Harry and Louise Leavitt Jr. of Detroit, Carroll and Carol Sue Leavitt of Newport, Earl and Therolin Leavitt of Palmyra, Galen and Ervena Leavitt of Palmyra, Harland and Deborah Leavitt of Glenburn and Howard and Nancy Leavitt of Glenburn; one daughter-in-law, Lorraine Leavitt of Hartland; 26 grandchildren, 52 great-grandchildren, 18 great-great-grandchildren; several nieces and nephews. In addition to her husband, Harry, she was predeceased by one son, Linwood Leavitt; five sisters, Edith, Maggie, Susie, Ruth and Dolly; and two brothers, Tom and Preston. Graveside services will be conducted 10 a.m. May 8 at Palmyra Village Cemetery. Private family visitation with be held at Brown Funeral Home and Cremation Service Center, 34 High St., Newport.
