PITTSFIELD – Orma M. Wood, 88, passed away March 21, 2009. She was born Sept. 28, 1920, in Montreal, Canada, a daughter of George and Annie Hoy. She moved with her family to West Charleston, Vt., when she was 2 years old. Orma graduated from Derby Academy and attended Burlington Business School, Burlington, Vt. In 1940, she married Charles “Bob” R. Wood Jr., and together they raised four children. They lived in Newport, Vt., until 1952, when they relocated to Pittsfield. Orma was a longtime member of First Baptist Church, Pittsfield. Orma was a wonderful wife, mother, and grandmother who had many talents. She will be remembered as a great cook, a talented seamstress and quilter, an avid bridge player and a loyal Tiger Woods fan. She is survived by her husband of Gorham; two sons, Kenneth and his wife, Lynda, and Richard and his wife, Geri, all of Utah; a daughter, Candace Hill of Portland; seven grandchildren, 13 great-grandchildren, and one great-great-grandchild. Orma is also survived by a sister, Vera Buck of Jaffrey, N.H. A son, David, predeceased her, in 1999. The Wood family extends their deepest appreciation to all of the staff at The Inn at Village Square, Gorham, for their kindness and care throughout the last two years. They also thank St. Joseph’s Manor, Portland, for their compassionate attention to Orma during her last days. We are sincerely grateful. A memorial service will be held 1 p.m. Monday, March 30, at First Baptist Church, 245 Main St., Pittsfield, with the Rev. William Johnson officiating. Private burial will be at the Veterans’ Cemetery, Augusta.
