HALLOWELL – Barbara S. Wheeler, 86, of Balsam Drive, died Saturday, March 21, 2009, at MaineGeneral Rehabilitation and Nursing Care, Graybirch Drive, Augusta. She was born June 20, 1922, in Augusta, the daughter of Ernest R. and Gertrude (Plummer) Shaw. Barbara graduated from Cony High School and spent most of her life as a homemaker. She enjoyed being with family and friends, and always talked about her visits Downeast as a child and later with her husband, John and son, David. Her smile and good nature was inviting. Barbara was a super, super “Lady” and will be missed by all. She was predeceased by her husband, John, in 2000. She is survived by a son, David T. Wheeler of Augusta; friends Rose Hinckley of Augusta, Leola Russell of Friendship and Orland Smith of Presque Isle; several cousins, nieces and nephews. The family thanks the staff at Granite Hill Estates, MaineGeneral Medical Center in Augusta and Graybirch, for the care and compassion given to Barbara. There will be no visiting hours. A committal service will be held 10 a.m. Friday, March 27, in the chapel at the Maine Veterans’ Memorial Cemetery, Civic Center Drive, Augusta. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Kennebec Valley Humane Society, 10 Pet Haven Lane, Augusta, ME 04330.
