MADAWASKA and PINELLAS PARK, Fla. – Marcella S. Carrier, 81, passed away March 21, 2009, at Harmony Health Care Center, Sarasota, Fla., ending her courageous battle with a long time illness. She was born Dec. 30, 1927, in Pohenegamook, Quebec, daughter of Edmond and Bertha (Dery) Grandmaison. Upon graduating from high school, Marcella left the area to work in a clothing factory in Connecticut, but soon returned home. She will be fondly remembered by the many people she worked with at Fraser Paper, where she worked in the time office and multitasked in the personnel department for many years until her retirement in 1985. Every summer she would go through the many hopefuls that wanted to work within the large paper mill as “summer spares,” which she knew by name. She was known for being fair and conscientious in her hiring and scheduling practices. Marcie, as she was affectionately known, was involved in community groups such as the American Ladies Auxiliary and the square dance crew, which she and her husband, Edgar, were past presidents. She enjoyed painting canvases, sharing recipes, attending car races, traveling – both for leisure and business, line dancing, collecting teddy bears, attending plays, taking life with an adventurous spirit, and enjoying stimulating conversations. Her family is very proud of the life she lived and the way she lived it. She was always ready with words of advice and encouragement, as lessons of life were gently nudged. No words can express our loss. Simply said, we will love her forever. Marcie is survived by her beloved husband of 60 years, Edgar Carrier of Madawaska and Pinellas Park, Fla.; one daughter, Joan Carrier of Madawaska; one son, Bob Carrier of Rancho Mirage, Calif.; one granddaughter, Carrie and her husband, Michael, of Madawaska; one grandson, Matthew and his wife, Tracy, of Jay; four great-grandchildren, Eddie and Austin Dechaine and Mackenzie and Lucas Michaud; and three siblings, Real and his wife, Juliette, of Pennsylvania, Gilman and his wife, Earline, of Van Buren and Nancy and her husband, George, of Madawaska. Marcella was predeceased by one brother, Gaston. A funeral service will be held 10 a.m. Saturday, March 28, at St. Thomas Aquinas Church, Madawaska. Friends and family may call 6-8 p.m. Friday at Daigle Funeral Home. There will be no visiting hours before the funeral Saturday. Spring interment will be at the parish cemetery. In lieu of flowers, contributions in Marcie’s memory may be made to the American Lung Association National Headquarters, 1301 Pennsylvania Ave., NW, Suite 800, Washington, DC 20004.
