HOWLAND – The Rev. Raymond Worth Kearney, 82, went to be with the Lord March 21, 2009, leaving behind his wife, Carol (Packard) Kearney. He was born July 8, 1926, in Snow Hill, N.C., the son of John Thomas and Eunice Elizabeth (Grimes) Kearney. Raymond lived in North Carolina, where he started his ministry. He pastored and ministered in prisons, nursing homes, churches, on radio and TV until the last few months. His ministry consisted of 61 faithful years. He moved to Howland six years ago with his wife to her family’s homestead. His wife and family were the joy and love of his life, as well as his little dog named Peanut, and that love was extended to all those he came in contact with. In addition to his wife, Carol, he is survived by his sons, Donnie Ray and his wife, Virginia, of Pikeville, N.C., and Raymond II of Lucama, N.C.; a daughter, Ernestine Hardee of Pikeville, N.C.; sisters, Dene Dockery of Lakeland, Fla., and Mary Carraway and her husband, Robert, of Goldsboro, N.C.; brother, Warren Harding Kearney and his wife, Marie, of Goldsboro, N.C.; four stepchildren, seven grandchildren, several great-grandchildren, one great-great-grandchild, several nieces and nephews. In addition to his parents, he was predeceased by two brothers, John Thomas Jr. and James David; and a baby daughter. Friends may call 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. Tuesday at Clay Funeral Home, 7 Lee Road, Lincoln, where funeral services will be held 2 p.m. Wednesday with the Rev. Rick Libby officiating.
